ART 1300 Drawing Foundations<\/strong>
\nCreative expression and communication using a variety of black and white media.<\/p>\n

Objectives<\/strong>
\nUpon successful completion of this course, you should be able to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Identify and visually map the underlying structure in a single object or a complex still life;<\/li>\n
  • Create a convincing illusion of space using perspective, overal and focus;<\/li>\n
  • Render cubes, cylinders, spheres and composite forms convincingly;<\/li>\n
  • Use graphite, charcoal, and black and white conte effectively;<\/li>\n
  • Effectively critique personal and peer artworks and propose alternative solutions;<\/li>\n
  • Complete an ambitions Capstone Project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Assessment Criteria<\/strong>
    \nGrades will be based on three major factors.<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Skill acquisition and application. In a \u201crealistic\u201d drawing, is the illusion of space convincing? Is the composition deliberate and effective? Have materials been used effectively.<\/li>\n
    • Idea Development. How effectively have you used thumbnail sketches and other idea generation strategies? how wide a range of possibilities did you explore.<\/li>\n
    • Learning Process. Do you come to class prepared? Do you take risks? Complete assigned reading? how substantial and consistent are your contributions to class discussions?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Attendance<\/strong>
      \nAttendance is required. It is impossible to fully \u201cmake up\u201d a missed demonstration or critique. Arriving late also derails learning. Students that miss more than 8 hours of class for any reason generally earn a C or below. More than two unexcused absences will result in a C or below. More than 3 unexcused absences will result in a D or below.<\/p>\n

      Note: One project will be accepted one day late without penalty. One additional late project will be accepted with a one letter-grade penalty for each day it is late.<\/p>\n

      Biographical Statement Assignment<\/strong>
      \nThe purpose of this assignment is to provide me with some background on your work and to give you practice writing about your ideas. Write anything you want, one to three typed pages, double-spaced, 12-point type.\u00a0 Please proofread, and use spell-check!<\/p>\n

      Consider: How long and for what reason have you made art? What are the sources of your ideas? Under what conditions do you learn the most? What is your definition of success as an artist or designer? Really give this assignment some thought\u2014it is the basis on which I will begin to build the intensity level of this course.<\/p>\n<\/div>
