Encaustic paint combines beeswax, pigment and a hardening resin. It is heated and then applied to wooden panels, heavy paper or other strong surfaces. It is noted for its brilliance, malleability and durability–but never leave an encaustic painting in a hot car in the summer—that could produce a sticky mess!
